Karaoke your way to overseas holiday

Singers across the country start practising – the search is on to find Australia’s next representative in the world’s largest amateur singing competition.

Now in its 9th year and hosted in as many as 30 different countries worldwide, the Karaoke World Cham-pionships have become an invaluable opportunity for aspiring vocalists to perform in front of an international audience, gain exposure and further their entertainment ambitions.

In 2010, Australia’s Luke Kelly travelled to Moscow, Russia to compete in the world finals, placing in the top five male singers in the world. The world title honours went to Finland with the USA’s, Edward Pimental taking home the prized audience vote.

The 2011 event will culminate with Australia’s national champion travelling to Killarney, Ireland in September to represent Australia and compete in the world finals for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, including a recording deal.

Heats will be held in venues across the country from February, with state finals in June. Australia’s National Champion will be announced on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club Showroom on Australia’s fabulous Tweed/Gold Coast before they fly to Ireland, September 8-10, 2011.

The Australian prize package includes flight and accommodation packages including a return trip to Killarney, Ireland with five nights’ accommodation, interstate weekend travel and accommodation packages, cash prizes, Club Crocodile Airlie Beach Holidays, Capital Karaoke prizes and trophies. Over $50,000 is up for grabs in cash and prizes in the national and international finals combined.

Australia’s champions have proudly claimed the international title a record three times in as many years.

For the Mid-North Coast, your local venue is Beechwood Hotel, Friday nights at 6pm.
