Glasshouse wins over people

The Glasshouse Regional Gallery won the Exhibitions & Public Engagement (four or less staff) IMAGinE Award 2011 for its recent exhibition People of the First Sunrise.
Established in 2008, the IMAGinE Awards celebrate the achievements and extraordinary diversity of the NSW and ACT museum and gallery sector and those who work within it, both paid and volunteer. The Glasshouse and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council have won IMAGinE Awards in 2008, 2009, 2010 and in 2011.
People of the First Sunrise was a project in partnership with Port Macquarie TAFE, Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) and the Glasshouse Regional Gallery. Over a nine-month period, Aboriginal TAFE students  developed a curatorium and selected works from the MCA Collections under the mentorship of Keith Munro, Curator Aboriginal Projects, MCA. Twenty-four works by 17 renowned Indigenous artists from eastern Australia were selected, exploring current issues about identity and place
In August, the Glasshouse won the 2011 Countrylink North Coast Tourism Award for Best Cultural and Heritage Tourism Attraction on the North Coast and was presented with the APACA Drovers Presenter of the Year 2011—Honourable Mention Award at the Australian Performing Arts Centres Association (APACA) Awards dinner in August.
“These Awards highlight the diversity of quality Glasshouse experiences available to our community and visitors—performing arts, gallery, heritage and tourism—and are a credit to the dedication of our talented staff,” said Glasshouse Manager Joe Conneely.
