A local MP insists coastal communities wanted one important question answered in Tuesday’s NSW Budget: Does it include the funding needed to finish the Pacific Highway upgrade by 2016 or not?
Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott said last week, “North coast communities voted for the National Party in the 2011 NSW election based on several key factors — one was their promise to complete the highway duplication by 2016.
“The question now is whether they meant what they said pre-election,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“In the past couple of months, the National Party has talked up a mythical 80-20 funding arrangement with the federal government.
“The NRMA, among others, has set the record straight – no such agreement exists – and now coastal communities want a project, that has been promised for decades, delivered.
“We secured a record allocation of $3.56 billion in the federal budget; now let’s see how hard the National Party fought for a record state allocation.
“After all, they made the promise.”
