Cheese-making, made simple

Creating your own silky, smooth camembert or a slightly salty fetta in your own home needn’t be overly complex.
Artisan cheesemaker, Lyndall Dykes will be conducting a one day, 100 per cent hands on cheese making workshop in Port Macquarie on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25.
Lyndall will take the mystery out of cheesemaking. She says that if milkmaids can make cheese on mountain plateaus, then we can too.
The workshops are being held at the Port Macquarie Community College where participants will learn how to make camembert, fetta, ricotta, mascarpone, quark (cream cheese) and Greek style yoghurt. Making your own cheese at home is not only very rewarding, it’s also great to know what goes into the food we consume as well as being extremely cost effective.
To buy similar products to those made on the day would cost you over $30 whereas you can make them for as little as $13 – and the bragging rights are huge! Workshops cost includes all course notes, morning tea, a cheese inspired lunch served with a north coast wine and a gift bag of cheeses to take home. All cheese making kits, cultures, hoops and rennet will be available to purchase on the day.
Hurry, limited places are available. To book, please call the Port Macquarie Community College on 6583 7288. For more information, please visit: www.thecheesemakingworkshop.com.au
