Angelina Ballerina, the little star with big dreams who is adored by children around the world, will make her debut performance in the Glasshouse Theatre this January during SUMMERFEST 2012.
Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition follows Angelina as she prepares to audition for the prestigious Camembert Academy. Miss Lily prepares Angelina for her big chance to dance in front of the judges and, although excited about the possibility of an exciting new adventure, Angelina worries about leaving home.
The Glasshouse is thrilled to be presenting Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition, the first performance bought to the Glasshouse as part of The Open House Project – a three-year partnership with Sydney Opera House.
In 2009 Angelina’s first live ballet, Angelina’s Star Performance, drew packed houses at the State Theatre, Sydney and the Arts Centre, Melbourne. After its season at the Sydney Opera House, Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition will tour to Port Macquarie, Melbourne, Queensland, Adelaide and Canberra. This is the only regional performance.
Inspired by the award-winning children’s book series by Katherine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig, Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition features Royal New Zealand Ballet dancers performing to a recorded arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s music. The performance is choreographed by the English National Ballet’s Antony Dowson with costumes, based on the original Angelina Ballerina drawings by Wizzy Shawyer and set designs from Al Riches.
Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition is a wonderful way to introduce children from as young as three years old to the magic of classical ballet and live performance. Angelina always works hard to reach her goals and learn from her mistakes – she inspires her young audiences to follow their dreams too!
Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition is part of the Glasshouse’s SUMMERFEST 2012 program. Full program to be announced in shortly – with a plethora of low-cost and free family fun this January. Tickets for Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition are now on sale.
