PHOTOGRAPHERS and poets are being invited to draw their inspiration from the natural environment when submitting entries for the 2013 Osmosis Photography and Poetry competition.
The annual competition opened on Monday and the theme for this year’s event is ‘Water – The Cycle of Life’.
Entrants are invited to explore this topic both as a celebration of Port Macquarie-Hastings’ clean water supply and as a reminder that all the water extracted from the river is borrowed from nature and eventually returned to the environment.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the Osmosis project aimed to raise awareness about the amount of water used in everyday tasks as a first step in developing a responsible approach to water consumption.
“We have some of the most spectacular natural environment on the coast. Council carefully monitors water usage data, dam levels and environmental flows in our rivers to ensure the careful management of the region’s potable water supply,” Cr Besseling said.
Entrants of all ages are eligible to enter. There are three categories – photography, altered reality photography and poetry – with up to $600 in prizemoney up for grabs.
A selection of photographs and poetry from the competition will also feature in the 2014 Osmosis calendar which raises money for WaterAid projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
Entries close on Friday, August 16. To download an entry form or for more information, go to www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au/osmosis or pick up a hard copy entry form from any council office.
Winners will be announced during Water Week events in October.
