As the successful run of Sweeney Todd at the Players Theatre drew to a close recently, nine Port Macquarie High School students had time to reflect on their involvement in the Hamish Keddie production of Hugh Wheeler’s and Stephen Sondheim’s hit Broadway and West End musical thriller.
The show has been running since May 6 and the final performance was on Sunday, May 29.
Year 12 Drama student, Sam Wylie, was the lighting designer and has worked under the watchful eye of Mr Keddie.
Stage lighting design is a component of Sam’s HSC studies.
Making his acting debut in the theatre was Year 8 student Jack Titterington who was understudy to actor Simone Berry in the role of Tobias, the orphan boy.
Ruby Benedict-Giese was a member of the chorus and had numerous smaller roles.
The students who worked tirelessly backstage were so enthusiastic about the whole experience that most have already volunteered to be part of the next production.
The students were involved for a period of ten weeks and can’t wait until the next show starts pre-production.
