The Funny Nunny Musical, Nunsense, opened last weekend at The Players Theatre and had the audience in stitches, with the funny one-liners, audience interaction and madcap dance routines.
Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned most of the order of sisters and they die of Botulism.
As they do not have enough money to bury all the sisters, the sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of ‘Grease’.
Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.
Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon.
Directed by Julie Symons and starring Lyn Turner as Sister Mary Regina, Barbara Sherrin as Sister Mary Hubert, Cherie Kershaw as Sister Robert-Anne, Simone Berry as Sister Mary Amnesia and Amanda Gordon as Sister Mary Leo this is one musical comedy not to be missed.
Playing for a limited time from Friday, November 11 until Sunday, December 4 at Port Macquarie Players Theatre this is your chance to see Nuns as real people.
Bookings can be made by contacting The Glasshouse Box office on (02) 6581 8888 or purchased one hour prior to the show at The Players Theatre Cnr Gordon and Lord Streets.
