It`s the caped crusaders, nuns with a vengeance, on a mission to kill with comedy — and bury their dead cohorts, through a talent show fund-raiser. That`s Nunsense!
Catholicism isn’t usually associated with humour, but with Nunsense, comedy takes top billing.
Mother Superior Sister Regina, befuddled Sister Marie Amnesia, streetwise Sister Robert Anne and ballet-loving Sister Leo and mistress of novices Sister Mary Hubert sneak out of the convent one night to play bingo.
Upon their return, they find the other 52 sisters face down in their soup bowls due to accidental food poisoning. Adding to the misfortune, the nunnery is running low on funds and can afford to bury only 48 of the dead sisters.
Wishing to give the remaining nuns a proper burial, the sisters stash their friends in the freezer and hit the road to raise money performing.
Featuring songs, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz and comic surprises, Nunsense is one hilarious moment after another. The musical takes turns, both poignant and absurd.
Nunsense will be coming to The Players Theatre, November 11 to December 4. Bookings are available from The Glasshouse on 6581 8888 or one hour prior to show at The Players Theatre Cnr Gordon and Lord Streets, Port Macquarie.
