The adjudicators had a difficult time deciding the finalists for the 13th Kendall National Violin Competition (KNVC).
The semi final round took place on Sunday, August 7, at Government House, Sydney.
The eight semi-finalists — Ella Bennetts (NSW), Cindy Chau (NSW), Anna Da Silva Chen (NSW), Alexandra Isted (WA), Wendy Kong (NSW), Monique Lapins (SA), and Brett Yang (QLD) – performed before an audience and adjudicators.
The competitors have previously achieved many awards, scholarships and prizes. The adjudicators for the semi-final were renowned Carl Pini, Dr Susan Collins from Newcastle Conservatorium and Sun Roh who was a finalist in the inaugural 1999 KNVC, and is presently the 2nd concertmaster at the St Gallen Symphony Orchestra, Switzerland.
After lengthy deliberations the four finalists were selected and they are:
Cindy Chau (NSW) aged 16 years; Anna Da Silva Chen (NSW) aged 14 years; Monique Lapins (SA) aged 21 years and Victoria Wong (NSW) aged 13 years.
Associate Professor Goetz Richter, KNVC’s Artistic Director, is sure it will be an exciting final round.
After their semi final performance at Government House they now will perform at the final round to be held at the Kendall School of Arts Hall on Saturday September 10 commencing at 10.30am.
