One of West Africa’s leading musicians, Epizo Bangoura, has received critical acclaim for his clever mastery of rhythm and rare dexterity.
He is coming to Port Macquarie this weekend to pass his skills on to aspiring drummers in the community.
Epizo plays not only the traditional percussion of his native West African country, Guinea, but ALL percussion and a wide variety of western instruments, including Bala-fon (African xylophone), Kora (African Harp) and Goni (African Guitar) as well as western drum kit, congas, piano, bass, guitar, violin and saxophone.
Born into a family of Griots – musicians and storytellers, keepers of their ancestral traditions and customs – Epizo immortalises his culture through his songs, music and dance.
Combining both traditional and contemporary elements of music, Epizo has released three excellent albums: N’na, Inchallah and N’naninN’fa.
A concert will be held at Flynns Beach Surf Club on Friday, September 28, from 7pm. Tickets are available from the door for $25, children $15, with refreshments and snacks for sale.
