HEARTLESS thieves have stopped a children’s bicycle education program in its tracks after stealing a trailer containing eight bikes and other equipment.
Earlier this month burglars broke into the Moorabool Shire Council offices in Bacchus Marsh and stole a trailer containing eight bicycles, helmets and other equipment used in the community sponsored Victoria Police bicycle education program.
Star believes the program, which is run in primary schools across Moorabool and Hepburn Shire, particularly caters to children with a disability, teaching them to overcome obstacles.
Bacchus Marsh Youth Resource Officer Senior Constable James Ross he feared that without the vital equipment the program would be at a standstill.
“The community has worked so hard for this program and it’s incredibly disappointing that this has happened,” Sen Const Ross said.
“We’re appealing for anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of the trailer to contact police so that our local children continue to have this opportunity.”
Moorabool Shire Council chief executive Rob Croxford said the council was saddened by the recent incident.

“The bike trailer stolen from the Darley Civic and Community Hub is owned by Victoria Police and is used to deliver the Victoria Police Bike Education Program in schools throughout Moorabool and Hepburn shires,” Mr Croxford said.

“Moorabool Shire Council staff are not involved in the delivery of the program but we are saddened this theft will significantly impact on the delivery of the Bike Education Program and we hope the trailer can be recovered so the program can continue.”
Investigators have released an image of the trailer in the hopes that the community can help to track it down.
Anyone with any information about the theft is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
