A FUND-RAISER hosted in memory of a young Melton resident has raised a whopping $8000 and may become an annual event.
Ajay’s Pizzeria hosted the fund-raising event last month, and donated all the proceeds to the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The pizzeria was launched last year in memory of Ajay Psaila, who died after a tragic accident. The eight-year-old spent a week in the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital before he passed away.
Close family friend and Ajay’s Pizzeria staff member Colleen Downie said the day, which was initially intended to be a humble event, became “bigger than Ben-Hur”.
Colleen said close to 700 people attended the fund-raising day held at the Melton Amphitheatre and there was standing room at certain times of the day.
“The family is so very happy … we didn’t expect it to be this big,” she said.
“We’re already talking about next year. It might be the start of Ajay’s legacy.”
