Guilty plea

THE man arrested over the brutal murder of Bacchus Marsh woman Sarah Cafferkey formally pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court last week.
Steven James Hunter, 47, appeared briefly before Justice Elizabeth Curtain where he admitted stabbing Ms Cafferkey, 22, to death at his Bacchus Marsh unit on November 10 last year.
Police found Ms Cafferkey’s body encased in cement in a wheelie bin at a Point Cook address a week after she disappeared.
Hunter was remanded to appear again on June 26 for a plea in mitigation hearing.
Ms Cafferkey’s body was found in the wheelie bin on November 17 in the garage of the Point Cook home. Police had taken the bin for forensic examination after noticing a foul odour coming from it.
A CT scan confirmed Ms Cafferkey’s remains were inside.
An extensive manhunt ended three days later when police arrested Hunter at a unit in Hawthorn.
Ms Cafferkey was reported missing by her mother, Noelle Dickson, on November 12.
