DEVOTED volunteers from the Melton Uniting Church Op Shop are calling on locals to join them for a cuppa and some yummy baked goods later this month.
The ladies will be hosting their fourth Biggest Morning Tea event on Thusday, 23 May, and said the morning would give residents a chance to not only support a very worthy cause, but also make new friends.
The shop’s secretary Lyn Samson said most of the volunteers had been affected by cancer in some form and were keen to help out in any way.
“It’s just one of those horrible diseases that you just don’t know when it will get you,” Lyn told Star.
“The community knows we are here to help others out … you just don’t know when you might need it.”
This month, businesses and organisations throughout Australia will host morning teas to mark the 20th anniversary of the fundraising event.
Over $110 million dollars has been raised since the Cancer Council first put the kettle on in 1994. Last year a record $12.3 million was donated.
