MELTON Police have again issued a warning to motorists to lock up their cars and keep valuables out of sight.
The caution comes after a spate of thefts from motor vehicles occurred throughout the municipality earlier this month.
Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Jenks said while police are still receiving reports of stolen number plates, motor vehicles with valuables in clear view are still the main target for thieves.
Det Sen Sgt Jenks said the message is simple and pleaded for motorists to keep vehicles locked, remove valuables from the car and, where possible, park vehicles off the street late at night. He said vehicle alarms are also a great deterrent.
The warning comes after nine instances of theft from a motor vehicle were reported in between 1 and 3 July
In one incident in Dalray Crescent, Kurunjang, two iphones, an ipad and cash were stolen from a car parked in a driveway. In Earlswood Close, Caroline Springs, a wallet and cash were stolen and in Austin Place, Melton South, electrical items and personal identification were taken.
Meanwhile, police are seeking information regarding a burglary in Bennett St, Melton, which occurred between 6pm Friday 28 June and 3pm Saturday 29 June.
Det Sen Sgt Jenks told Star the offenders forced entry into a residential property and stole four firearms, a bow and arrow and a number of hunting knives from a firearms safe.
He said police are very concerned these items may have ended up in the wrong hands and are seeking information from the public in relation to the matter.
