Veterans launch RSL bid

A GROUP of Vietnam Veterans are calling on Caroline Springs residents to throw their support behind a proposed RSL sub branch.
Peter Burquest told Star that after creating a memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers three years ago, the idea of a sub-branch had been raised but support was now even stronger after 400 people attended this year’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service to pay their respects.
Anzac House and popular local venue The Club, run by the Collingwood Football Club, could be a site for the new sub branch, pending future approvals.
Mr Burquest is now calling on residents who also support the idea to attend an upcoming meeting.
He said the meeting provides an opportunity to answer any questions locals might have about a sub branch. It will also offer a clearer picture on what a union between the RSL and The Club will mean for the area and its importance in Caroline Springs.
“We can’t lose sight of what an RSL is all about and that is to offer care and support for current service members, ex-service members and families where needed,” Mr Burquest said. “These are the real values of this organisation.”
The meeting will be held on Monday, 22 July from 7pm at The Club, Caroline Springs. To book your place contact Peter Burquest at p.burquest@bigpond.com or on 0411463414 or Murray Lewis burnsidemurray@yahoo.com.au by 19 July.
