IT was another busy week on Melton roads last week as police continued their blitz on speeding and disqualified drivers.
At least four suspended or disqualified drivers had their cars impounded after being stopped for routine checks by police.
In one incident a 37-year-old male from Bacchus Marsh had his Mercedes sedan impounded for 30 days after he was intercepted on the Western Freeway, Caroline Springs. A routine registration check showed the registration on his vehicle had expired, and after he was intercepted it was found his licence had been cancelled and he was disqualified. The male had previous convictions for driving while disqualified, and will be charged on summons to attend court at a later date. The offender will incur costs of $799 before the vehicle is released.
In a second incident a 30-year-old female suspended driver from Kurunjang had her Holden Clubsport impounded last Monday week in Unitt St, Melton. Her licence had been suspended due to demerit points and she had previous convictions for driving while suspended. The offender will be charged on summons to attend Bacchus Marsh Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Meanwhile, an alleged thief was chased down and arrested after he attempted to break into a ute at Caroline Springs last Thursday morning.
Police say the thief was caught breaking into the vehicle in Kororoit approach, Caroline Springs, and after being challenged by the owner, the culprit fled the scene in a vehicle and a chase ensued.
Police say the pursuit ended when the vehicles collided with a third car at the intersection of Rockbank Rd and Caroline Springs.
The alleged thief then attempted to escape on foot but was chased down by the victim and another man.
The men restrained the man and in the process the alleged offender received serious facial injuries.
The victim, a 23-year-old Caroline Springs man, was interviewed by police and is expected to be changed on summons with assault and reckless conduct endangering life.
The third man has been released pending further inquiries.
