BROOKE Newton has her sights set high.
The Melton songstress may only be 15 years old, but her young age belies her talent.
A seasoned performer with the Australian Youth Choir, Brooke has always loved to sing and when the choir visited her school almost eight years ago she was adamant that she would take to the stage with them.
Now, the Melton Catholic Regional College student will see her singing skills take her to China to participate in the First World Peace Choir Tour in August this year.
Brooke was one of five singers in the choir chosen to participate in the tour. Singers from Russia, the United States, Austria, Czech Republic, Malaysia and China have also been invited to participate in the show spectacular that will be touring China’s largest cities.
Proud mum Yvonne told Star her dedicated daughter has been rehearsing five hours a week in Canterbury with a very challenging repertoire of 22 songs of various languages including Chinese, Malaysian, Austrian, Serbian, Russian, German, French and Indian.
And if that isn’t enough, Brooke is also involved in swimming and athletics.
But even this exhausting schedule doesn’t deter the Year 10 student from fulfilling her dreams.
“It will be an amazing experience,” she said.
“It will be good to experience other cultures.”
The hard-working teenager admits she is a fan of classical music but has recently enjoyed singing hits from The Beatles and Michael Jackson.
As for pre-performance nerves, well there are none.
“I used to get nervous, but not now … we have gigs every month and I recently sang at Federation Square.
“It’s a great feeling.”
