City push to rezone

By NATALIE GALLENTI

MELTON City Council last week moved a motion which may see parts of Kurunjang rezoned from Low Density Residential Zone to a Residential 1 Zone, despite concerns from residents.
At last week’s meeting the council voted to seek authorisation to prepare a planning scheme amendment from the Minister for Planning.
The city intends to draft and exhibit the amendment, application and permit to rezone several properties in Outlook Ride and 2 Gunnawarra Rd, Kurunjang to Residential Zone 1.
Only Cr Broden Borg opposed the motion.
Two residents in the gallery raised concerns about increasing the number of residential properties in the small suburb, citing traffic congestion as a major worry for residents.
Presently the area only has one entry and one exit point.
Cr Sophie Ramsey admitted the possible traffic conditions, if the permit is approved, could make the roads more dangerous for motorists and the 1600 residents living in the area.
However, said it is up to the Minister for Planning to decide if the amendments should be made.
Cr Bob Turner concurred that traffic conditions were the main concern for residents but said the appropriate research should be done before blocking the development.
However, Cr Broden Borg said he could not support another development in the area until another entry and exit point is created.
