MERRIMU Services in Melton and Bacchus Marsh is encouraging residents to attend its annual Grand Final luncheon on the eve of the big game to raise much-needed funds for the organisation.
The not-for-profit group offers adult people with a range of disabilities the chance to participate in society through its two giftware shops in Bacchus Marsh and Hillside.
The shops are conducted as an activity option for Merrimu’s clientele and provide a training ground for retail skills and independent living skills. Money raised at the luncheon will help Merrimu continue its vital work in assisting adults with a disability.
Chief executive Frances O’Reilly said Australian industry had a poor record when it came to employing people with a disability, but Merrimu is working towards turning this around.
“It’s about people being members of the community and doing something for the community,” Ms O’Reilly said.
“It gives them a confidence boost.”
She encouraged local businesses and community members to get on board and support the important work Merrimu does within the municipality.
Last year, the luncheon boasted guests like Essendon young gun Dyson Heppell and Collingwood legend Peter Daicos.
Sporting memorabilia and raffle draws will be auctioned on the day.
The luncheon will be held on Friday 27 September. Tickets for the event are $80 per person and include a three-course meal plus drinks. For more information, contact Helen Carr on 5366 3000 or hcarr@merrimuservices.com.au.
