CITY of Melton families will now have a wider range of kindergarten placements on offer for their youngsters after the redevelopment of Parkwood Green Children’s and Community Centre was officially opened last week.
In attendance at the opening was Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development Wendy Lovell and Melton City Council mayor Kathy Majdlik.
Cr Majdlik said the redevelopment was part of the council’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality facilities and services for its residents.
“The construction of an additional kindergarten room at Parkwood Green has resulted in 66 new kindergarten places to the centre, plus a further 36 places to the existing three rooms,” she said.
“This has greatly improved our capacity to deliver quality early learning opportunities for our youngest residents and implement universal access across the municipality.”
Cr Majdlik said the financial support of the State Government meant residents living in the City of Melton now had some of the best facilities available to them.
The additional kindergarten room will allow the centre to deliver programs that reflect children’s interests and encourage investigation, discovery and play, while enabling educators to be flexible and innovative in their program delivery.
As part of the redevelopment, the centre’s existing community meeting room was extended, and now provides greater opportunities for the community to hold regular meetings or one-off events.
