CLAIRE Healey has swapped the boardroom for the roads of Australia in a bid to raise vital funds for the ConnecTeD Foundation which supports children and adults with connective tissue disorders.
Ms Healey, an IT executive, is in the midst of tackling a 14,000km motorcycle journey to raise funds for the foundation and will head to the City of Melton today (Tuesday) to meet Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome sufferers Maddison and Kayla Parker.
Young Maddison has made it her personal mission to increase the awareness of EDS within the community and is looking forward to meeting the inspirational ride organiser and leader who also has the debilitating disorder.
“We look forward to spending the weeks motorcycling around our beautiful and challenging Australian landscape.
“While it will be tough we expect it will be extremely rewarding for everyone involved.
“We sincerely hope that through raising awareness within the community, funds can be raised to continue ConnecTeD Foundation’s important work with children and adults with connective tissue disorders,” Ms Healey said.
When beginning this gruelling journey in September Ms Healey said she had three goals – to raise money to assist the funding required for the continued support and treatment of individuals with connective tissue disorders, increase public awareness of connective tissue disorders and EDS and to inspire others with connective tissue disorders with the message that people can do anything they want to in life.
Melton residents are being encouraged to welcome Ms Healey on her ride through the area today and young Maddy has organised a picnic at Hannah Watts Park.
