YOUNGSTERS from across Melton and Brimbank are being encouraged to show off their latest dance moves at a disco in Deer Park this Friday all in the name of a good cause.
Lulu Events is hosting Dance for Kids this Friday evening from 5pm to 9pm.
The event will raise much-needed funds for My Room – a not-for-profit institution that supports research and clinical care in a bid to help improve outcomes for childhood cancer in Victoria.
The organisation has raised more than $16 million dollars since it was established in December 1993.
Event organiser Rebecca Baldacchino said she chose to raise funds for My Room after being touched by cancer as a child.
“I chose My Room because I have seen first-hand the wonderful work that the Royal Children’s Hospital do and wanted to do my bit,” she told Star.
“When I was growing up, a child from my primary school died from cancer.
“I can still remember the massive impact it had, not only on his family, but also on all of the community.
“I realised then the amount of support that families need during the time the person has cancer until after their death.”
Rebecca said while the event is about raising money it will also be a great way for children to end their holidays on a high note.
She said the night will include a fully choreographed interactive performance by SASH Entertainment and there will be many other exciting activities for children to enjoy including airbrush tattoos, popcorn, fairy floss, games, prizes, professional photos and costume characters.
“It will be an exciting evening for the whole family where children can dance and also play on the big indoor playground in the centre.”
The disco will be held at Laughs Galore, 38 Westwood Drive, Deer Park, from 5pm to 9pm. Tickets range from $8 for children aged one to three to $12.50 for children over three years of age.
