Scrumming down with juniors

By NATALIE GALLENTI

RUGBY enthusiasts across Melton are being encouraged to attend a meeting later this month in a bid to secure a team.
Melton City Council and the Victorian Rugby League are hoping to gauge community interest in starting a junior rugby league club in Melton and residents are being asked to come along and have their say on the night.
Game development officer Ryan Walker said the Victorian Rugby League was looking for anyone who had an interest in being part of a new club in the area and was also looking for players of all ages as well as people to be involved in committee, coaching, training and managerial roles.
“The number of children who participate in rugby league programs within the primary and secondary schools in Melton continues to increase year by year,” Mr Ryan said.
“We have also run two successful holiday clinics over the last two years with more than 50 children attending each year.
“Rugby league is a great sport to be involved in, and is a fun and safe way to keep fit and meet new friends.”
The meeting will be held on Wednesday 16 October from 6pm at Mt Carberry Reserve, 29- 41 Exford Road, Melton South. For further questions, contact Melton City Council’s recreation development officer at nicolew@melton.vic.gov.au or on 9747 7200.
