Diggers left disappointed

By NATALIE GALLENTI

MEMBERS of the Diggers Rest community are disappointed with the preliminary proposals of an ongoing Local Area Traffic Management study conducted by Melton City Council.
At a meeting of the Cambridge Coburn and Watts Residents Association last week, Diggers Rest residents voiced concerns over what they see as a lack of consultation with the community and the possible number of speed humps that might be implemented.
CCWRA president Nathan Miles said residents believed the proposed traffic changes would significantly change the established areas of Diggers Rest and “turn it into speed hump city”.
Mr Miles said residents were also concerned with the number of parking bays that would be lost on Welcome Rd.
He said the group unanimously passed a motion to call for the immediate suspension of the LATM due to the lack of consultation with the community and serious community safety concerns.
The group is calling for a community forum to be hosted by the council.
Melton City Council has not made any decision to implement the proposals presented to the community. The closing date for survey responses was yesterday.
