WOMEN across Melton are being encouraged to attend an exhibition showcasing the work of a prominent human rights organisation.
The Zonta Club of Melton will host the exhibition which will demonstrate a variety of information regarding local and international projects that is has been involved in which help aid the causes of women both within the municipality and the wider community.
Long-time member of the club Faye O’Shea said the exhibition is the first of its kind in the area and will help residents become aware of the good work the club provides for women.
The exhibition will also coincide with International Women’s Day.
“Zonta is about advancing the status of women worldwide,” Ms O’Shea said.
“Zonta International envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognised as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential.
“In such a world, every woman is literate and has access to education, health care, legal and economic resources on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.”
The not-for-profit organisation is open to professional women and is described by Ms O’Shea as a “working club” that hopes to make life better for women across the globe.
Some of their projects include breast cushions and school campaigns that help to boost the confidence of young women and combat bullying.
One of its biggest campaigns is Zonta Against Drink Spiking, where the club provides free bottle caps to women to prevent their drinks from being spiked at local pubs and clubs.
The exhibition is being held at the Visitor Information Centre in Melton from 3 to 15 March.
The club meets regularly at Melton Country Club Reserve Rd, Melton, on the first Monday of every month for a dinner meeting at 6.30 for 7pm. Anyone interested should contact Ms O’Shea on 0416 145 481 or go to www.zonta.org
