BRIMBANK residents with a swing in their step will waltz their way onto the dance floor in Keilor this weekend.

The Brimbank Community Ballroom Dance Club (BCBDC) Inc will show off their best moves at the Keilor Bowls Club on Saturday and is on the lookout for new dancers.

BCBDC Inc promotions co-ordinator John Dykun said the club is a great way for residents to get active and meet new people in the community.

“This is a great club for people who like ballroom dancing and want to go to classes and learn new dances,” Mr Dykun said.

“We deviate into other things like jive and rock-n-roll but predominately ballroom.”

Mr Dykun became a member of the community club after deciding to get back into the groove last year.

“It’s all about meeting new people. The most important thing for me was the fact that in the last 12 months I had made 40 or 50 new friends who I now meet on a regular basis,” he said.

The BCBDC Inc is a not-for-profit club created, run entirely by volunteers who want to promote ballroom dancing in the Brimbank area.

“We do receive some limited funding because we reach out and provide a service to others,” Mr Dykun said.

“There are some really good redeeming features of what we do. It’s all not-for-profit. We do this because we love what we do and want to run classes and dances.”

The BCBDC Inc will hold its first dance of the year on Saturday 2 February.

Free coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided on the day.
