Home invasions

A PAIR of violent offenders have terrorised an elderly couple and hit a man with a firearm during three Brimbank burglaries.
Last Monday at around 6am, two males wearing balaclavas forced their way into a home in Roche St, St Albans.
Brimbank CIU Senior Sergeant Fred Grove said a man and woman, aged 79 and 80, were asleep in the abode.
“The offenders made threats to an elderly couple who were inside the downstairs bedroom and demanded cash,” he said.
“One offender had a long-barrelled firearm and the other one had a large machete, or knife.
The two men stole cash and jewellery, before fleeing through the front door.
“There were no physical injuries but the couple were scared out of their wits,” Sen Sgt Grove said.
At 10.45am last Monday, another armed burglary occurred in Andrew Rd, St Albans.
Balaclava-clad men – armed with similar weapons to the first crime – smashed a window to enter a home.
A couple aged in their 20’s and their two-year-old daughter were inside.
Sen Sgt Grove the couple were awoken by the two males yelling demands for cash, while a third male ransacked the home’s other rooms.
After the burglars left, the male resident pursued them in his vehicle and the three offenders confronted him at John St.
“There’s been a bit of a physical altercation at that location and they’ve attacked his vehicle with the machete,” Sen Sgt Grove said.
Police said they believe the same men could be responsible for a similar incident which happened at 8am on 16 February in Warrick St, Sunshine North.

Sen Sgt Grove said the burglars took the man’s watch and phone and then assaulted him with the butt of a firearm.
The burglars then took an iPhone and handbag from a female resident before fleeing through the front door.
“It’s concerning we’ve had these three home invasions in such a short space of time and with people who have a firearm,” Sen Sgt Grove said.
He appealed for anyone with information about the incidents, or who saw people loitering or unfamiliar vehicles in any of the burglary locations, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
