WYNDHAMVALE will be hoping its efforts in the middle will be enough to snare victory from Williamstown Imperials in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association’s A1 Turf grand final this weekend.
The match has reached its halfway point after two days of play and will resume with the Imperials taking over the crease on Saturday.
Wyndhamvale batted through 80 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat in ideal conditions at Bryan Martyn Oval in Newport, and has set the Imperials 231 for victory after posting a decent 9/230.
The Williamstown Imperials’ bowling attack battled through two days of warm summer heat and used seven bowlers to work their way through the Wyndhamvale line up.
Brendan Slattery was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets and a maiden at the expense of 22 runs in nine overs.
Glen Robson also proved handy with three wickets of his own for Williamstown Imperials.
His 19 overs yielded six maidens and conceded 46 runs, while Mark Craig chimed in with 2/34 and two maidens off his 12 overs.
Rohan Hilson was the only other wicket taker of the innings, claiming 1/37 and five maidens in his 17-over spell.
Meanwhile Jack Haines, Andrew Mercaldi and Paul O’Keefe couldn’t break through over the two days.
Williamstown Imperials will kick off the run chase this Saturday hoping to avenge last season’s grand final loss to West Newport.
