HOBSONS Bay Hotel will undergo significant changed before opening in June next year.
The Hobsons Bay Hotel freehold was sold to the Made Establishment Group, headed by
four directors including MasterChef judge George Calombaris and George Sykiotis.
The hotel will include a Jimmy Grant’s souvlaki spot and public bar on the ground floor and a Hellenic Republic restaurant upstairs.
Mitchell Humphreys and James Gregson of Fitzroys last week brokered the sale of the hotel, located at 28 Ferguson St, Williamstown.
“Upon inspection of the property the group visualised the pub’s potential for some of their key brands and confidently purchased the freehold,” Mr Humphreys said.
As well as the iconic Greek tavern Hellenic Republic in East Brunswick and Jimmy
Grants, described as “Melbourne’s best souvlaki bar”, the group operate the popular Gazi, The Press Club and PM24 restaurants in the CBD and Mama Baba in South Yarra.
Listing agent Mr Gregson said the sale of the hotel to this calibre of owner operator further highlights the desirability of Williamstown as a hospitality location.
“This type of venue is going to benefit the surrounding shops, restaurants and local community,” he said.
The corner site is approximately 300 square metres, on one of Williamstown’s “A Grade retail strips”.
The two level building has a total area of approximately 500 square metres with a 10-metre frontage to Ferguson St and 31-metre frontage to James St.
The first floor includes a balcony and has city and water views.
