Corpse kept in police cell

THE body of a motorcyclist who died in a crash last week was kept at Keilor Downs Police Station after the accident.
On Tuesday 12 February, police attended the crash scene in St Albans after the tragedy occurred just before midnight on Monday.
Police said they believed the man was riding west on Taylors Rd when he came off the bike.
The St Albans resident, aged in his 20’s, died at the scene.
Radio station 3AW reported the man’s body was kept in a cell at the Keilor Downs Police Station after the collision.
The coroner usually takes a body from the scene of fatal accidents.
When Star asked how long the body was stored at the station, a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed the body of a deceased male was taken to the station following a collision in St Albans.
“This was done in consultation with the family for a number of reasons including a large number of family present at the scene and them wanting immediate access to the deceased,” the spokesperson said.
“The matter will be subject to the standard de-brief and review.”
Police are investigating the crash and appealing for witnesses.
Last Wednesday the state’s provisional roadtoll stood at 46 after the St Albans accident.
Anyone with information about the crash can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
