FOOTSCRAY residents have been warned of noise and traffic disruptions ahead of more Regional Rail Link work.
In letters sent out to affected residents, the Regional Rail Link Authority has advised of upcoming works to take place along the Footscray – Deer Park section of the line over coming months.
Residents can expect work to take place between Monday and Saturday from 7am to 6pm, with weekend night works also taking place on Saturday nights between now and through February from 10pm to 6.30am.
The RRL Authority has advised that there may be some noise associated with the use of light machinery and vehicles, including reversing beepers and a small generator.
Meanwhile, the Footscray – Deer Park project team will soon be calling Tottenham home, and is setting up a project office on the west side of Ashley St, opposite Rupert St.
The project office will include on-site parking for about 300 of the management team, project managers and senior engineers that will work from that area.
The team will upgrade the informal car park on Rupert St to provide an extra 100 parking spaces for Tottenham train station.
A section of the car park will be closed for one day in February as part of the project.
The RRL Authority will host a community barbecue in coming weeks to give residents an opportunity to meet key members of the team and find out more about the works in Tottenham.
State Transport Minister Terry Mulder said the Government welcomed feedback from the residents.
“We try our hardest as a Government, and VicRoads do as well, to minimise the impact… but there’s always a trade-off on these types of projects and sometimes you can’t keep everyone happy,” Mr Mulder said.
“But you still should be prepared to talk to them.”
The Footscray Senior Citizens Centre and acquired homes along Buckley St have already been knocked down as part of Regional Rail Link works.
Old storefronts along Irving St have also been demolished to accommodate the new rail line.
