WITH more and more cars filling Point Cook’s already busy roads, Wyndham Council has announced that much-needed construction works will start on Hacketts Rd.

A total of $1.6 million will be spent extending Hacketts Rd south for about 760 metres from Sneydes Rd.

Winslow Constructors has carried out similar road construction projects for Wyndham Council and is currently working on the Sneydes Road duplication.

Cr Bob Fairclough said it was a major step towards the improvement of Point Cook’s road network.

“This project will improve road access for residents of Kingsford and Saratoga estates and the broader Point Cook community,” Cr Fairclough said.

“With Point Cook’s population expected to increase to more than 56,000 by 2016, Hacketts Rd is becoming an increasingly important transport link for residents.

“Surrounding properties will be notified prior to the start of the works and in the event of a significant delay, a newsletter will be delivered to update affected residents.

“The project is part of Wyndham City’s 2012/13 capital works program, which includes $29.1 million for roads and footpaths.”

Construction is expected to begin in mid-January 2013 and be completed in early May 2013.
