A WERRIBEE woman who has been touched by cancer is using her experience to help change the lives of other people.
Samantha King has been diagnosed with skin cancer twice in the last two years.
She said the experience of having to wear a bandage on her face made her feel like she was on display.
“The first skin cancer I had was on my nose and so it was there for everyone to see,” Ms King said.
“I had plastic surgery, so everything looks fine again now, but I had to wear a bandage across my face for a while.”
That situation gave Ms King the idea of holding a Girl’s Garage Sale to help raise money for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
“When I had the cancer I would need to do something to make myself feel better so I would just give myself a lift by buying a new pair of shoes or something,” she said.
“When you look good you feel good, so it was one of those sorts of things.”
At the Girl’s Garage Sale people will be able to buy makeup, clothes and accessories.
Ms King’s goal is to raise $2500 through a range of fundraising events by October, when she will take part in a 200 kilometre bike ride as part of the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
The garage sale will be held on Sunday 27 April at 9 Olivetree Close in Werribee.
