FOOTSCRAY Edgewater was twice found wanting in a double-header weekend of Premier cricket.
The Bulldogs lost to Carlton by 59 runs on Sunday, and were thrashed by Geelong by 178 runs on Saturday.
Footscray Edgewater failed to reach Carlton’s score of 5/231 after several batsmen got starts but could not consolidate.
Captain Travis Gloury opened the batting with confidence and struck 14 runs from 15 balls before being run out by Tim Buszard, who was himself run out for 62.
Fellow opener Kevin Barker made 23, Travis Dean hit 34, and Shane Jones was dismissed for 28.
The tail wagged for a bit but was required to make runs too quickly to be able to settle at the crease.
Andrew McCammond was the pick of Footscray Edgewater’s bowlers, taking 2/37 off 10 overs.
Brad Green was the only other wicket-taker, claiming the scalp of Blues captain Nathan Pilon, but went for just a tick over a run a ball in his nine overs.
Carlton opener Jake Hancock made 81 runs, while unbeaten batsmen Nicholas Ross and Tom Smyth ended Carlton’s innings in a flurry, together making 45 runs from 28 deliveries.
Footscray Edgewater had a dirty day against Geelong on Saturday, managing a paltry 92 while chasing 270.
Jacob Thorne was irrepressible for Geelong, making 82 not out from 54 balls. Meyrick Buchanan was firing with 71 runs off 82 balls before being bowled LBW by Sean Hollins.
Andrew McCammond, who so far has been Footscray Edgewater’s best bowler, was the only multiple wicket-taker with two wickets.
Footscray Edgewater started its pursuit encouragingly, with openers Kevin Barker and Ben Green forming a 52-run partnership, before run-outs to Green and Travis Gloury for three sparked a collapse. Travis Dean and Dylan Kight, who were the heroes for the Bulldogs the week before, both made ducks.
Hollins showed some resistance with his knock of 17, but once he was dismissed the final four wickets went 16 runs.
Footscray Edgewater will take on Camberwell at Camberwell Sports Ground this Saturday.
