FOR a group of Caroline Springs retirees, the opportunity to re-enter the workforce – even on a voluntary level – was simply too tempting.
Many residents at Caesia Gardens Retirement Village still work a range of different paid jobs, while others spend countless hours volunteering in the community.
Resident Carol Costano said despite retiring five years ago, her passion for teaching remained.
“Five years ago I retired from my position as a school principal, but I couldn’t leave the industry entirely,” Mrs Costano said.
She now works every fortnight for Victoria University, where she assists students studying education.
“I do it because I really love to be able to nurture what’s happing in the teaching profession,” she said.
Fellow resident Ann Chetcuti returned to work after a four-year hiatus.
Resuming her work as a medical receptionist one day a week, Mrs Chetcuti said it gave her a chance to interact with colleagues and patients.
“It keeps my mind occupied,” she said.
“I always make sure I have something to do – women are good at that.”
She encouraged seniors to involve themselves in activities, whether it was work or a hobby.
