SUNSHINE resident Johanna Muller is equally at home striding down the catwalk or doing a complex calculation.
The former Braybrook College student will take part in a preliminary round of Miss Universe Australia 2011 at Epping Plaza this week.
Ms Muller has been in the contest once before, when she reached the state finals of this year’s competition in May.
However, she was relieved not to make the national level because she had an exam the day before she would have flown to Sydney for the finals.
Ms Muller, who is studying chemical engineering at the University of Melbourne, said her favourite part of the competition was meeting other girls and chatting to them.
“I’m excited this time because I know what to expect but last time I was very nervous,” she said.
“I’m a bit shy so it brought me out of my shell.
“I wanted to enter again because I had such a good time, last time I was there.”
In the meantime, the 20-year-old has been busy “studying every night” as her end-of-semester exams approach.
“I love maths and chemistry,” Ms Muller said, whose mother is a mathematics teacher.
The talented young woman also hopes to become a high school maths and science teacher when she graduates.
“I’d like to help encourage students to gain an interest in maths and science,” she said.
As for the immediate future, Ms Muller is looking forward to the Miss Universe preliminary round and modelling in her favourite category, evening wear.
The event will on at the Epping Plaza on Friday 3.30pm and 7pm, and Saturday 2pm.
