House prices rise

Figures released in the Victorian Property Sales Report revealed Sunshine, Albion, St Albans, Kealba and Keilor Downs all recorded more than a 30 per cent growth between June 2009 and June 2010.
Median house prices in Keilor jumped a whopping 73.7 per cent from $446,300 to $775,000.
Land sales have also increased dramatically in developing areas like Burnside, Cairnlea and Taylors Hill.
Douglas Kay sales manager Adrian Kay attributed the increase to the fact that period homes in Sunshine and surrounding areas were still affordable compared to those in the eastern suburbs and even neighbouring municipalities like Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley.
“You can’t buy period homes on the other side of town in the $400,000s,” Mr Kay said.
“Most buyers come from the other side of the city and can afford to buy a home that they wouldn’t be able to in their area.”
However he said the dramatic rise in prices would soon plateau as interest rates rose.
He said there were hotspots all across Brimbank and encouraged buyers to research the area before making a decision.
