Members of the Keilor Historical Society, along with the Keilor Residents Association are campaigning for the council to install a new local history section at the Keilor Village library.
President Susan Jennison said the nook could include historical records, books, newspapers and photographic displays.
“This area has an incredibly vibrant history and it would be so useful to have a special area that people could go to,” Ms Jennison said.
“It could become a drawcard and even attract more people into the library.”
The society will meet with the council this week to discuss the concept.
Its members are also campaigning for the fast-tracking of a new history website they said the council previously promised.
“We’ve almost completed scanning all of our records to put them online,” Ms Jennison said.
Kelly Grigsby, the council’s General Manager of Community Wellbeing said the council had no plans to install a local history section at the library.
“We would be pleased to partner with the Society from time to time … however we are not currently considering funding a new historical section at the Keilor Village Library,” Ms Grigsby said.
Helen Morrissey, the council’s General Manager of Community Relations said the council was currently redeveloping its website and an online history portal would be considered as the project moved forward.
