BOXING coach Dave Preston is expecting big things from one of his students after she snared silver at the Australian Amateur Boxing League national titles recently.
Werribee’s Dawn Berryman, 14, lost by just one point to 16-year-old Tasmanian Kristina Jacobs in the final of the 57kg division, held in Hobart.
Preston, who runs a gym in Werribee, labelled Berryman an “up-and-coming female sensation”.
“The fight was a great battle against two up-and-coming athletes. They both had a good kit of punches and moved well,” Preston said of the fight.
“Dawn is a keen boxing student who is motivated and loves a challenge. She was a hit with the crowd who were calling her name.”
It was Berryman’s first national title fight, and Preston said her improvement has been rapid in a short space of time.
“Dawn’s father Shane was proud to be ringside to witness the great Australian national title battle,” he said.
