Super clinic

GP Dr Rodney Aziz has put in a submission to the Federal Government to build a super clinic on land opposite the police station at 103-105 Harvester Rd, Sunshine.
Dr Aziz, who operates four medical centres in Camberwell, Kew, Preston and Wagga Wagga, hopes to build the state-of-the-art facility to include a range of services from pathology and x-ray to psychology and physiotherapy.
The centre would be bulk-billed and would operate seven days a week, with extended after hours services.
Brimbank Council has lent its support to the scheme, declaring the municipality to be an ideal location for the centre.
“Brimbank is an ideal location for this facility with the potential to benefit the entire region and we would be happy to work with a range of local health providers to secure a site in the municipality,” Brimbank administrator Peter Lewinsky said.
Mr Lewinsky said improving the health and well-being of the community was a major priority for the council, with heart disease, depression, type two diabetes and stroke among the municipality’s biggest killers.
“Another key consideration for us is that Brimbank has a lower number of general practitioners compared to the state average, with Brimbank having 0.77 practitioners per 1,000 residents compared with 1.03 for the state,” Mr Lewinsky said.
“This number of has decreased in the last 12 months and we clearly believe we have a worthy case to put before the government.”
