SUNSHINE detectives are investigating after a man was burned during a Molotov cocktail attack in Sunshine West last week.
Police and firefighters were called to the Evelyn Crescent home about 1.25am on Tuesday after the home-made bomb was thrown into the front yard, setting some pot plants on fire.
Four adults were asleep inside the house at the time but awoke when they heard crackling noises.
When they investigated, they found a bottle filled with burning liquid on the front lawn.
Police say a 47 year-old man was injured when he attempted to extinguish the flames.
“He tried to push it away and the top of the bottle blew off, spraying the burning liquid out,” said investigating officer Detective Senior Constable Gerry Fabbro.
He was taken to the Sunshine Hospital where he was treated for minor burns to his arms and legs.
Det Snr Const Fabbro said police believed the incident may have been a grudge attack.
“It’s not something that happens often and it usually occurs when someone has got a beef with someone else.”
He said the family were living in fear of further recriminations.
“Molotov cocktails are quite easy to make but can cause a lot of damage,” Det Sen Const Fabbro said.
“In this instance, if no-one had been home it would have been quite easy for the house to have been burned down.”
The bomb also caused smoke damage to the house.
Police are seeking witnesses to the incident.
