Robber caught

At around 10.20pm on 5 February a 23-year-old Hawthorn East man was walking through the Albion Station underpass when he was approached by a group of six or seven Pacific Islander youths.
Police allege that one of the youths threatened the victim before robbing him, while another acted as a lookout. When officers arrived at the station the group dispersed, jumping off the platform and making their escape. A police dog gave chase and caught one of the youths.
Police allege the 15-year-old was in possession of a meat cleaver and cash. The teenager has been charged with robbery and associated offences and will appear before the Children’s Court. Police are still searching for the remaining offenders.
Meanwhile, detectives are also on the hunt for a man who committed a daring daylight train robbery on the same day. At around 11.50am a 13-year-old Deer Park boy was travelling between Sunshine and Albion stations when he was threatened and robbed.
The boy handed over an ipod to the robber, who is described as being of Pacific Islander descent. Police are still investigating both incidents and would not comment on whether they were linked.
