Cougars set to pounce

By Luke D’Anello
STEVE Kolyniuk is hopeful his East Keilor side will improve on last season’s 11th-placed finish in this year’s Essendon District Football League (EDFL) B Grade competition.
Ex-Cougars Nick Grigg and Daniel Bonnici have returned to the fold, while the club has also secured the services of Michael Spooner and Jeremy Krojs from Ballarat Football League team Melton South.
Elvir Destanovic has also moved across from Doutta Stars, and Kolyniuk said he was optimistic of gaining the signatures of three more players.
“My goal this year is to play finals. Whether that’s realistic or not, we’ll find out, but that’s my goal. If we don’t make finals it’s an unsuccessful year,” Kolyniuk said.
“(Last year) we won six games and finished with a percentage of 88, so we were competitive at least, whereas the previous year we only won two games and finished with a percentage of 30, I think.
“But we dropped away in last quarters and our fitness wasn’t up to scratch. But we think, with seven or eight new players into the club, we’ll make considerable improvement.”
The Cougars will begin their campaign against local rival Keilor Park on 9 April.
