It is hoped the arrival of Staivous Mulumba and his wife and daughter will help form an even closer relationship with the Chibobo community before a select group of staff and students head out there later this year.
Since 2004 Overnewton has been supporting the work of Help Ministries Project, a non-government organisation that cares for 60 orphans who have been affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The Mulumba family visited the school last week and spoke to students and staff about the issues facing their community.
Year 11 student Madison Davies is one of the students chosen to travel to Zambia with the group in June and said she looked forward to spending time with children from the orphanage.
The school hosts fundraisers throughout the year with proceeds going to the orphanage and only last year they sent over bikes for the children to ride.
