MANY people dream of becoming an actress, singer or dancer, but a talented Cairnlea youngster is already on the road to a career in show business.
Ten-year-old Isabella is a member of the Children’s Performing Company of Australia (CPCA), has appeared in plays and short films and sung in front of Australia’s Governor-General.
The Cairnlea Park Primary School Grade 5 pupil said she was motivated to take part in so many projects because “one day this might add up to being an actress”.
“I want to be an actress mainly, but Mum wants me to be a lawyer because I’m good at arguing with people,” she said.
“Sometimes I wish I could be a singer, but I think it would be hard to write songs all the time.”
Isabella said she enjoyed performing as a member of the CPCA’s Broadway Chorus group.
“You can show people your talent, what you actually do. People are impressed,” she said.
“Sometimes I feel it’s cool to know, in the theatre you can’t see the audience’s faces so your nerves go away a bit more.
“But sometimes I like to see people’s faces and see their reaction. You can tell if your performance is good or not from their reaction.”
During Grade 3, Isabella sang a solo as part of her school choir in front of the Governor-General and has also appeared in several network concerts, which take place when schools across the West get together to stage performances.
Isabella said one of her favourite roles has been as the Red Queen in the Alice of Wonderland in one of these shows.
“Doing the Red Queen, I had really posh facial expressions and a sway when I walked, everyone laughed and laughed,” she said.
The young actress’s mother, Lerma, said Isabella was ambitious and as long as her performing did not get in the way of schooling, she was allowed to pursue her talent.
“When we saw ‘The Addams Family’ on Broadway, that was when she said, ‘Mum, this is what I want to do,’ Lerma said.
