WINLESS Taylors Lakes’ struggles in the Essendon District Football League’s (EDFL) A Grade competition continued on Saturday.
The Lakers suffered their second successive triple-figured defeat, this time against two-time reigning premier Maribyrnong Park, 28.13 (181) to 6.12 (48), at Lionheart Reserve.
Former Carlton player Luke Livingston dominated the Lakers and finished with 10 goals. The Lions booted eight goals in the first term against the winless Lakers to kill the contest after 30 minutes.
By the final change, the margin was over 100 points.
In the end, it was a hard lesson for Taylors Lakes, which won last season’s B Grade premiership.
Former Williamstown-listed player Trent Lee was the best for the Lakers and iced his performance with two goals, while Mark Xuereb and Aaron Ramsay also worked tirelessly.
While the season is yet to reach the halfway mark, Taylors Lakes appears almost certain to be relegated unless it improves rapidly from here.
The Lakers have been more than competitive at times, but they lack the class required to conquer the battle-hardened sides in the top tier.
Taylors Lakes will next face Oak Park on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Keilor was humbled by Greenvale and now sits three games outside the top four.
The Blues entered the season as second favourite for the flag but have won just two of their first seven games.
Greenvale was simply too slick for Mick McGuane’s men and posted a 55-point win, 15.8 (98) to 6.7 (43).
Keilor trailed by 28 points at half time and was then held goalless in the third term. Greenvale finished strongly, kicking four goals to two in the final term to score a convincing victory, with James Armstrong, Kieren Prowse and Dylan Joyce among the best for the beaten Blues.
In B Grade, East Keilor’s impressive start to the season continued with an 83-point win against Moonee Valley, 22.12 (144) to 9.7 (61).
Michael Spooner (six goals) and Elvir Destanovic (four) formed a potent combination up forward as East kicked 21 goals to six after quarter-time, while Jeremy Krojs and Ben Hutchinson also starred.
Keilor Park has plummeted to seventh spot on the ladder after a 41-point loss, 14.12 (96) to 7.13 (55), against premiership fancy Pascoe Vale.
The ladder-leader kicked eight goals to three in a blistering performance in the final term.
And full-forward Murray Silver was held goalless for the first time this season.
Keilor Park was well-served by Steven Gamble, Jackson Hutton and Brayden Allen.
In other results, Hillside lost by 50 points against Northern Saints, 17.10 (112) to 10.2 (62). Anthony Neicho worked hard for Hillside, while Troy Stone pocketed three goals.
