Hoons squeezed

MORE than 70 hoons were caught during a three-day police operation in Brimbank this month.
Special Operations police, along with local officers were out in force around the city’s transport hubs on Wednesday 1, Friday 3 and Sunday 5 June as part of Operation Trojan, an initiative aimed at driving down anti-social behaviour in crime hotspots.
Police searched more than 500 people as part of the high visibility operation, which also aimed to crack down on alcohol and drugs offences, along with property damage, robberies and assault.
A total of 380 vehicles were checked and 271 random breath tests conducted.
Police nabbed 77 people speeding and one drink driver, while a further five were attested for weapons and drug offences.
Four people were caught driving while unlicensed, disqualified or suspended and seven for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Meanwhile, three people were arrested for being drunk and three for assault.
Acting Brimbank Police Inspector Chris Gilbert said the operation was one of many planned for the city in the coming months.
He said the city’s two dozen new recruits would allow police to saturate high crime spots around the city’s transport hubs more often.
