WHILE most students can’t wait to get home every day, Sarah Schuback is in no hurry to leave school.
The 15-year-old Catholic Regional College student often remains at school voluntarily long after the bell has rung.
The St Albans resident takes part in an extra-curricular creative writing class that runs after school each week.
“I’ve always loved reading and writing ever since I was a little girl,” Sarah said.
“I’ve written quite a few short stories and I’m always reading a new book.”
The budding writer had stars in her eyes last week when she was given the opportunity to meet one of her favourite authors.
Children’s author John Marsden visited the school last Monday to hold a writing workshop for more than 50 students.
Sarah said it was a thrill to meet the author behind popular books such as Tomorrow When the War Began.
“It was really interesting to meet him,” she said.
“He taught us how to improve our work, how to put more detail into our descriptions and characters.
“It was very helpful.”
Catholic Regional College students are currently working on a compilation of short stories to be published later this year.
